Key Insights from National Energy Forum

CAG member Donna recently represented TasNetworks CAG at the Energy Consumers Australia (ECA) Foresighting Forum, “Flick the Switch,” held in Sydney on 4-5 March 2026.
Bringing together advocates, industry leaders and experts from across the energy sector, the forum explored emerging challenges and opportunities in delivering fair, reliable and affordable energy, particularly for vulnerable customers.
Donna described the event as a “valuable and eye-opening experience,” with a strong focus on collaboration, innovation and consumer outcomes. Across two days and more than 30 speakers, several key themes stood out.
A central message was the importance of building and maintaining trust in the energy sector. Speakers emphasised the need for strong consumer advocacy grounded in evidence, meaningful engagement and a willingness to challenge assumptions to ensure better outcomes for all Australians.
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) was also highlighted as both a risk and an opportunity. While AI is transforming the energy landscape, it also presents significant potential to improve grid efficiency and support smarter energy delivery in the future.
Another key insight was the concept of building “Brand Energy”, a collective effort across the sector to strengthen public trust and confidence, particularly in a time of rising costs and increasing complexity.
In addition to these insights, Donna identified several opportunities for the CAG to explore further, including new community-led energy solutions and ways to strengthen trust and engagement with customers.
