North West Transmission Developments

The North West Transmission Developments (NWTD), being progressed by TasNetworks, include 240km of new and upgraded transmission lines and other energy infrastructure that will increase the capacity of Tasmania's electricity network. The project is currently in the Design and Approvals phase. It is anticipated that main construction activities will commence in 2026, following approvals.

The developments will enable Tasmania to become a world-leading renewable energy provider and support the decarbonisation of Australia.

  • Community engagement

    CLOSED: This discussion has concluded.

During May and June, TasNetworks will begin the next phase of landowner engagement and community information sessions as part of the proposed North West Transmission Developments.

These critical network upgrades to the electricity transmission network, along with a proposed 1500 megawatt Marinus Link interconnector, will inject $1.4 billion dollars into the North West local economy, including 1400 jobs during construction, as well as support Australia’s transition to a clean energy future.

As part of the project’s independent approvals process we will also be conducting targeted field surveys during this period to help identify and record Aboriginal and historic heritage sites, protected vegetation and plant species, and any potential threatened animal habitats.
