Insulating oil is an essential component in the electricity system and is primarily used in transformers. We have numerous overhead and ground mounted assets statewide that contain this insulating oil. We are continually upgrading our network or responding to faults that may occur with these assets. Oil management is controlled through two TasNetworks oil facilities, each located in the north and south of the state where we recycle clean oil as an alternative fuel or dispose of it through a licensed facility.
Occasionally, accidental oil spills from transformers occur. We aim to deal with these quickly and professionally. We have specially equipped oil spill trailers located around Tasmania to facilitate the containment and clean-up process. Our spill response field crews are trained in their deployment and are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should an incident occur.
We're always looking for ways to improve our customer's experience. If you have experienced an oil spill at your property from one of our assets and require assistance, please call our Fault Centre on 132 004. We're keen to hear your thoughts on our response and will follow through with a survey to capture this feedback.
