Bryn Estyn Power Supply Upgrade Project

Consultation has concluded

The Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant is greater Hobart’s primary source of drinking water. It was originally constructed in 1962, with some additions in 1972 and 1992.TasWater is upgrading and expanding the plant to provide higher quality drinking water for many years to come. The upgrade is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

As part of the project, TasWater have engaged TasNetworks to provide two new underground high voltage electrical services to the Bryn Estyn plant. This will improve water supply security to Greater Hobart customers. The electrical supply starts at TasNetworks existing New Norfolk Substation and will follow an 8.7 km route to the Bryn Estyn plant, as shown in the map below. The cable route will follow existing TasNetworks transmission corridors, TasWater accessed right-of-ways, road reserves and crown land.

Electrical works commenced in January 2022 with a completion date expected in July 2022.

At times, these works may take place in front of or near residential homes on the cable route. All customers directly affected by this construction will be notified by TasNetworks in advance of works taking place. Electronic signage will be used to notify road users of some traffic disruptions. To ensure everybody’s safety, traffic control measures will be in place and all traffic disruptions will be kept to a minimum. We ask that you please observe all traffic control directions during this time.
