TasNetworks CEO, Seán McGoldrick, has been appointed as Chair of the Australian Energy Charter’s CEO Council for 2024. This one-year appointment places Tasmania at the forefront of national energy discussions and also embodies a commitment to collaborative, nationwide efforts in the energy sector, focusing on inclusivity and sustainable practices.

Seán emphasised the importance of a united approach to the energy transition, stating, “As Chair of the Energy Charter CEO Council I am committed to fostering collaboration across the energy sector. We have a unique opportunity to drive new thinking, ensuring that the transition to cleaner energy is inclusive and enhances outcomes for our customers, communities, and the environment."

Acknowledging the significance of the #BetterTogether initiatives under the Energy Charter, Seán added, "The Energy Charter's shared platform for #BetterTogether initiatives is vital for delivering tangible benefits to our customers and communities. These initiatives ensure that we are not just transitioning to clean energy, but doing so in a manner that is affordable, fair, and sustainable."

Seán also expressed gratitude to the outgoing CEO Council Chair. "I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Guy Chalkley, CEO of Endeavour Energy, for his outstanding leadership during 2023. His guidance in prioritising social licence and cost-of-living initiatives has set a strong foundation for us to build upon."

Reflecting on the broader implications of the energy transition, Seán stated, "Our work transcends the immediate concerns of pricing and network adaptation. We are shaping a future where electricity is clean, reliable, affordable, and accessible to all, keeping the needs of future generations at the forefront."

He concluded with, "I'm eager to contribute to this significant journey, both on the national stage and here in Tasmania. By embracing the expertise of our customers and communities, we can manage our impact effectively and deliver real benefits. Together, we will ensure that the future of energy is not just clean, but more equitable and affordable for everyone."
